Self-produced seeds

Seeds used in organic production must be produced according to this production method for at least one generation, while complying with the standard specifications for organic plant production (Order of the Ministry of Agriculture of February 28, 2001 – J.O.R.T. N°19 du 06 Mars 2001).
However, during a transitional period expiring on December 31, 2020 (Order of the Minister of Agriculture, Hydraulic Resources and Fisheries of February 9, 2016 – J.O.R.T. N°14 du 16 Février 2016), the use of seeds not obtained according to the organic production method provided for in article 5 of law n°99-30 of April 5, 1999, relating to organic farming, is authorized, provided the following conditions are met:

- Seed users can prove, in a manner deemed sufficient by the National Commission for Organic Agriculture, that they have been unable to obtain reproductive material for an appropriate variety of the species in question on the national markets.

- The seeds used must not be treated with phytosanitary products, as stipulated in the two annexes to the standard specifications for organic plant production.

To facilitate the availability of information for organic operators, the CTAB, in collaboration with the various agricultural organizations, prepares a database for each crop year, containing a preliminary list of organically produced and untreated seeds in Tunisia.
